CLASSES 2024
​Dakshina does not currently conduct group classes in BN. Private classes are conducted for serious students who wish to learn beyond the basic through our program. Classes are taught in the Tanjore Court style , in the Kandapa-Balasaraswati Sampradaya. Young dancers must have reached their 7th birthday. Classes are open to Men, Women, Boys & Girls or Indian and Non-Indian background.

POLICY
Students must purchase a class card of 4-10 classes. Single classes are not allowed.
​
Female Dancers are to wear: half saree, choli, pajama
Young ladies: pajama and blouse with dupata and adorn a red poutu (bindi)
Male Dancers: Pajama and Tee shirt.
NO SHORTS, TIGHTS OR SWEAT PANTS ALLOWED.
For youngsters, parents are not allowed to observe the class, except for the initial class.​

BEGINNERS CLASS
students will be introduced to the pada vinyasa ( feet positions), bedhas of standing and sitting positions along with the basic Adavus ( basic steps) and Samyuta & Asamyuta Hastas ( Hand Gestures) learn basic Kauthavam.

​INTERMEDIATE CLASS
Students will review basic adavus, bedhas and hastas.
Items will be introduce. and intro to Abhinaya ( art of storytelling) Alarippu, Jatiswaram, Shabdam
ADVANCE CLASS
Review of Adavus, bedhas, hastas. Advance items will be introduced:
Varnam, Padam/Kriti, Tillana
